Uncle Joe i will never forget the way you decorated my bedroom as a teenager. I loved it and my friends were so jealous. May you rest in peace.

When I was 15, a fellow high school student went to the Crandon Park renaissance festival. He met Joe and begged him to come to Homestead High to recruit volunteers. I'll never forget the first time I saw him. As I sat in a high school auditorium, a man in tights and brocade walked out on stage like it was all he ever wore. He spoke about recreating history with more passion and excitement than I had heard in 10 years of school. I spent the next 20 years sewing garb and selling cider. Joe never wavered from his commitment to history, his commitment to the faire. At my first faire, Joe was still explaining how to set up the SaintlyCiderSellers booth when patrons started arriving. As he shouted orders, I curtsied, and said "Yes, Papa" and rushed to do his bidding. For years, he would shout "Daughter!" And I would answer "Yes Papa" Today my brother sent me this announcement, and it hit me very much like losing my dad. Joe Allen changed my life. He made it richer, more beautiful, more magical. Joe's heaven has colored banners blowing in a bright March wind. May God and George be waiting for you with a cold cup of cider and a warm welcome home. I love you Papa.
