Johanna “Jo” Cafiero was born in New York City on August 27, 1931, returning home to God on April 14, 2026, leaving behind a loving family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who love and will miss her very much.
Growing up, Johanna participated in singing and dance lessons and was the proud graduate of Grover Cleveland High School, Class of 1949. Becoming an Air Force wife when she married Lawrence Cafiero in 1953, she moved from base to base with her husband and growing family in multiple states until finally settling in North Miami, FL where she lived the rest of her life.
Johanna worked tirelessly raising her children and being an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. In time, she took a part time job at Holy Family Credit Union which turned into a full time job when it merged with Peoples Credit Union, which later merged with We Florida Financial. She is fondly remembered by former Holy Family students as “The Credit Union Lady” and as “Ms. Jo” by her co workers at We Florida Financial, which she retired from at age 75.
At home, Johanna was a devoted wife and mother. Sewing was her specialty; she made the best damn Halloween costumes in the world. Later she got into crocheting, knitting and quilting and many of her family and friends have her beautiful creations to remember her by. As her children and grandchildren grew older and some of them moved to chillier climates, she kept them supplied with hats and scarves with the admonishment to “wear them when you go out!”
Our mother Johanna was strong and independent up until the very end. She touched many people, family and friends alike with her love and generous nature, never hesitating to help with advice or support. She is survived by her children Marianne Cadena, Larry Cafiero Jr, Nancy Solano and John Cafiero and their families and was predeceased by her son Joel Cafiero She was proud of and loved her five children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
