My first love: mom/grandma/mama. She gave me a lifetime of love and happiness and taught me the importance of loving each and everyone.  Mama always knew how to cheer me up, comfort me and place a smile on my face. I cannot recall ever having a bad day with her. Living without her is hard and the pain is great. Mom I love and miss you, however I know you are at a better place. Like the apostle Paul say “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).  I feel sad now and then, but I just have to remember you are no longer suffering from any pain or your inability to walk.  I know you have put on your heavenly clothes and dancing while you continuously watch over me and the rest of the family.  As usually, I never say good bye just see you later.

Beauty, elegance and grace, you were like no other. Your love had no limits. The woman who left her job to raise me as a baby. My life long protector. You lived a beautiful and joyous life. You were special to us all. You gave a love that cannot be matched. It was truly unique. You taught us all that through pain comes joy and that our mistakes were opportunities to grow. You treated life like a camera film, creating beautiful pictures from the negatives. You were more than just any regular Grandma. You were my shoulder to cry on, my ear to listen to, my reality check when I needed one and much more.  Zahara and Noah were truly blessed to have shared so many memories with you. The night before you passed Noah walked back into your room as we were going to leave and he gave you multiple goodbye kisses as if he knew you were leaving us. That same night Zahara prayed for you before bed time and then looked at me and said "mommy grandma will soon feel better". I knew I was doing something special when I named her after you even though you told me not to.  You had the faith, strength, and courage to move mountains and climb obstacles some would not believe.  A woman who made a way when others thought there was no way. Grandma, you were phenomenal. Our memories will forever be etched into our hearts.

 Mama, you were the rock that kept our family together over the years.  No matter how far apart the years or circumstances pulled us, your spirit always pulled us back together.  You gave us unconditional love and support and never judged us.  Your home was always welcoming and alive with many generations of children, grand children, great grand children and their many entourages.  You welcomed strangers who became family and embraced them each with love and respect.  

Thank you Mom for leaving this great legacy of a loving family. May we all strive to be humble and caring of each other as you were of us.  Missing you dearly but with many great memories.

she always kept God in our lives

I have so many cherished memories of her reading 
Genesis 1 :
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."
I remember her getting me ready to go back to school 
she would go to Linstead Market and buy me some crep shoes.
She was my story teller, I would sit and listen to Anansi the spider stories.
Brother Anansi and Brother Shark is still my favorite.
My mother was a provider. 
Always making a way out of no way, she made sure we were never hungry.
One thing I know for certain she gave us love that was unmatched and that could never be compared

My favorite memory of my grandma was when we were all at Aunt Elaine's house and all the family from Florida were there for the summer.  Most of the adults and the older grandkids were out doing something and they left me and Brianna home with Grandma, Grandma was laying down in the room watching her soap operas which she really enjoys doing as me and Brianna were left to entertain ourselves.  Me being older cousin I decided that I felt the need to pick on Brianna like I usually do so I was messing with her and she gets upset and and starts chasing me, and obviously me being more agile than Briana there was no way she was going to catch me. So we were running through Aunt Elaine's house and I made a sharp turn to get up the stairs and Brianna wasn't able to keep up with me after the turn and she tripped and fell into Aunt Elaine's wall and chipped up all the paint and this is when I knew stuff got serious and was no longer a joke. Grandma hopped out of her bed and turned off the soap operas and sprinted down the stairs like Usain Bolt and beat Briana  and I was just left there so shocked that grandma got down the stairs so quickly, I was honestly amazed that my grandmother could move so quickly. Now, today when I remember this, I think I got my track speed for my Grandma. I love  and thank you for everything.  I'll always have you in my heart also thank you for not beating me that day even though I started it.

Mama , I miss you so much. 
I remember the days when you use to plait straw & I would sit at your feet, in admiration while killing mosquitoes simply enjoying your company. 
You always showed your love for God through hymns.
So many times I would listen to you humming to yourself.  
Of all the songs , the one that stayed closest to my heart sang;
"My mother taught me how to pray
My mother taught me how to pray
If I die, and my soul be lost
Nobody's fault but mine!"
You taught me so much love and compassion for others.

MOM you were the best, you were always there for us. You always say you want to see us pass  the worst. It was so much fun to visit you or to have you come to visit us. Your grandkids adore you. We miss you more than words can say,  but we know you are with your maker.  We will always love you and your memories will live on forever. RIP

A few months ago, Miss Lyn said she was ready to go home to her heavenly father.  I think she was satisfied with her children.  She did a great job. She had time to pray for the forgiveness of her sins.  Ladies and gentlemen, it was something to behold the out pouring of love in her last days form her off springs and all the unofficial adopted children. There were Hugs, Kisses, Cards, Flowers and Balloons the holding of her hands and the quiet personal conversations.  We are going to miss her quiet voice; we are going to miss her peaceful demeanor; we are going to miss the love she had for all; we are going to miss her cooking; we are going to miss her laughter; we are going to miss the stories of her life in St Catherine; we are going to miss her kindness; we are going to miss her hugs; we are going to miss seeing her coming to the door to let us in.  The truth is we are going to miss her. I pray Miss Lyn will have a place in Gods Kingdom and I imagine a mat a plague or voice saying welcome good and faithful servant.  I wish you all Gods richest blessing.  Peace be with you all!!!

Miss Lyn DaCosta came to the USA with a dream like many of us. Food, clothing and shelter were of utmost importance. But there was a mission that could only be seen if you knew her very well.  She started a Day Care in her home.  Parents had all kinds of problems and the children weren’t pickup on time.  It was not a problem for Miss Lyn the children would be cleaned up, fed and be ready of bed.  Some slept over, with that quiet voice “it was not a problem”.  Then there was another set of set of children that came after school.  She fed them, encouraged them to start their homework including practicing the words for the spelling test.  The final set were grown men and women  that came after work, these were Neville’s friends…..by the way Neville official name is Uriah and had friends with some biblical connection like Andrew and Mark.  They would eat, drinks, and played games.  The key in all this was  they were off the streets no problems with the law having fun in a quiet confined setting.  So Miss Lyn mission was to run a children ministry.  The children have gone on to be good citizens.  Its not 100% success but few failures all came about because they would not listen to her. I am happy to say they paid the price and today have literally pulled themselves up by the booth straps. ----Continue


I miss you mom. You treated me like your very own. For the past 35 years you treated me as a daughter that you birthed and I loved you as my mom. Thank you for all you have done for me, Cedrick, Mark, and Cristina.  I miss your love and beautiful smile. I will always cherish you in my heart. Missing you so very much.

Farewell and see you again Grandma

Grandma, I know you have transcended this earth suit, awakened and with the father and in no pain and are wondering why we look so sad. Growing up, You were always there. Grandma house: Place to eat, sleep, celebrate and keep your dogs.  You welcomed and loved everyone that came through that door. I always know I can come to you to get my General Hospital updates. Whenever I take you somewhere, after a certain time, You always grab your bag and give me that look and tell me, “ as night come, me wan go a me yard”. And you are always happy when I take you home. The last time I saw you, You didn’t look at me. Only waved your hand. And I knew in that moment that I couldn’t take you home. You had your bag in your hand but I couldn’t take you home. You were looking to the father and giving him the look you always give and telling him, “ me wan go a me yard”. And so grandma I will miss you, but me know you gone home a yard and you are happy. I pray that I may follow a good path and we will meet again and I can update you on General Hospital.

Grandma will always be here no matter how far away she seems.  She will be alive in our hearts and memories, so keep everyone close and be a happy family because  thats what grandma would want 💓💓💓💓

Mama was a force to be reckoned with. She was  the most loving and caring human being that I have come to know and love. She never turned her back on anyone and never wanted anything in return for all the great things she has done. Mama will be missed dearly, but I know she is smiling down upon her family and friends for as long as we continue to exist on this earth. I love you forever Mama. Spread your wings and fly.

Grandma would be very proud of the Legacy of love that she has left behind with her children,  grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. The love that she had she instilled in her children and her children have instilled the same love into her grandchildren. This type of love is rare because it is unconditional and because of that she will forever be missed, but most importantly loved. Thank you for being God's example to us of what it means to love unconditionally.

Mother was a warm compassionate woman who always went out of her way to help others. She had a passion for life and a wonderful sense of humor. It is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many long-lasting relationships over the years. As a woman of her era, raising the children are of the most importance. She wanted her children to have good manners, respect, and just sound moral values. These values made each of us what we are today. Accepting the things that we cannot change and changing the things we can. Mother had friends of all ages and provided health and strength of all she met on the way. It is an honor to stand before you and share the memories of our mother. She will be missed by all, but her memories will live on in us forever. I thank God for giving us the extra time to give back some of the care and love you have given us.

     And when I was done writing, she was very tired and overwhelmed from the process. She had wanted to grief alone, even in the end or her new beginning, she didn't want us to hurt. But before I could leave her alone, I had asked Grandma if there is anything you want to say to your grandchildren. “Do you have any favorites in mind?” And she laughed at me and said 
"Tell them they are all my favorites." 
So, when the world beats you down and the devil scares you with confusion. Know YOU on your best and worst day was and will forever be grandma’s favorite.
    I want to thank everyone in attendance. Your presence speaks volumes on the impression this wonderful woman had on all of us. Our parents gave us life, but it's our grandmother that gave us a sense of culture, of who we are, of where we came from and of what we could create for ourselves. As time became our adversary, it became very evident how blessed and incredibly spoiled we all have been to call ourselves family. To call ourselves friends. 
    My cousins, it is officially our time to step up, to finance, and to relieve our parents of the duty of carrying this family on their backs. On this day we lay our grandmother to rest. We your grandchildren are forever grateful for the lessons you taught us, but it's now our turn to let you go in peace and bless you the way you blessed us.
    To our parents, on this day and going forward we vow to work together the way you have to keep our generations strong and educated. To bring you peace of mind and to comfort you today and for the rest of our days. We will make you as proud as you made your mother. Our minds are strong, and we do not scare easy. We know who we are and whose we are.

“Grandma , am I your favorite?”

    We were cherished, individually loved. WE were her biggest joy. Grandma. Mama. Miss Lin. Whatever you chose to call her would always be met with a response of Affection that even our partners, children, or parents could never match. Endless Patience, pure honesty, and a devotion to understanding us as individuals, by our intentions rather than just our mistakes or shortcomings.

    Her sense of Humor was unmatched. I know that I’m speaking for everyone when I say the environment that Grandma created was a experience that even if recorded you just had to be a part of to feel and truly understand. Anything that included her was a Best childhood memory hands down! 

    Grandma had a special way of connecting with people she loved. Even at 90 she still knew each single one of us. Grandma never hesitated to preach the word of God. 'Honor your mother and your father so your days may be long upon the land which thy lord giveth thee.' She always sang her hymns sitting quietly on the couch as we busily buzzed around her, our queen, living our exciting and crazy life. But I knew she was always listening, registering and never missing a beat. She was aware of each of our accomplishments and frustrations. And when her days came to a closing, she would stroll back to her room, get comfortable in her bed full of blankets as she watched her gospel programs holding her bible close. And in her prayers, she never skipped your name. Whenever life surprised me with miracles, I wasn't sure I earned, I always said a thank you to my grandma's prayers. We all know we needed a lot of prayer.

The Love of Your Mother To the family of Ms. Lucianna Dacosta, 
Our mothers are our most cherished gifts, sent by God to raise us, love us and shepherd us through. And without question it is so apparent how the love of your beloved mother radiates in and through each of you. 
The love of your mother shows in your many kindnesses, thoughtful ways and how you always put others before self, how you open your home, your heart and your definition of family, counting those possessions as your life’s greatest wealth. 
As long as I can remember, Ms. Dacosta’s children have embodied a love full of life, joy, great compassion and hope. And it is my prayer that this love, a love only a mother could instill, is the strength that enables your family to cope. 
While nothing ever prepares you for the loss of your first and greatest love, we rejoice in knowing her eternity is sealed, and with great anticipation she has been welcomed home by the Lord above. 
Yes in you and your entire family, I see the fruits of your mother’s amazing and beautiful love – an experience no other thing can duplicate. May her life, her wisdom and her strength shower your hearts with warm memories until the day you shall again be joined face to face.
