Marie Civilna Fravien was born on February 15, 1944 in Dasma Eighth Rural Section of Maniche, Commune of Les Cayes in Haiti. She was the fourth of five children born to Domicile Jeudi, and the first born of the two children for Civilma Fravien.
Sponsored by an aunt, she migrated at the age of eight to Port-au-Prince, Haiti where she had some enriching experiences. At the age of 14 years old, she started to work as an entrepreneur to provide for her family back home. She became a single mother at the age of twenty. Out on her own, she learned how to sign her name and read. Afterward, she traveled to Curacao, Puerto-Rico, and Panama where she bought goods to resale them in Port Au- Prince, Haiti. After an unsuccessful marriage, she migrated to Miami in 1976 at the age of 32. She worked as a seasonal farm worker across multiple states for 13 years. She found more stable work as a custodian at Miami International Airport where she worked for more than 30 years until her illness.
She always made sacrifices to provide for her daughter, grandchildren, relatives, family, and friends always putting the needs of loved ones before herself. She believes in education and that is the reason she contributed financially to several relatives’ education. Also, she contributed financially to various nonprofit organizations such as Salvation Army, March of Dimes, the Veterans, and the Red Cross, just to name a few. Her motto: give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Marie was a mentor and a coach to many, which her friends can provide testament to. One of Marie’s friends stated that she can provide for her family today because of Marie’s mentoring. Furthermore, she is forever grateful to Marie and hopes to pay it forward to others.
Marie Civilna Fravien was predeceased by her parents and siblings. Her day-to-day joys were spent reading her bible, participating in different church activities, and gardening. Those who knew her, knew she has a sense of humor and love of helping others.
