Mickey Nelson, born on August 30, 1982 in Miami, Florida, to Claudette Nelson and Wilner Nelson, passed away unexpectedly at age 35 on May 28, 2018 in Tallahassee, Florida. Mickey was one of five siblings and the second youngest.

His childhood was not much different from others, sharing a room with his brothers, and maybe sister at times. They played together, went to church together, and were even punished together at times, all under the watchful eye of both their parents.

Mickey first graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High School in 2001 and then from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) in 2011 with his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. It was in middle school where he first learned to play the trumpet and that became his instrument of choice throughout his career.

While in college he was a member of the illustrious FAMU Marching 100 as he always dreamed of joining when he was a kid. Unbeknownst to his family he embraced his Haitian roots and joined the United Haitian Students of South Florida (UHSF) and Haitian Cultural Club (HCC), who became his new found family away from home.

His friends described him as a friend, mentor, and having a great heart. To his family he was one of the Fab 5.
