Poem for My Titi

In the embrace of memories, we gather today,
To honor My Titi who brightened our way.
Her laughter, a melody that danced in the air,
A spirit so kind, beyond compare.

Thoughtful and warm, her love knew no bounds,
A beacon of joy, spreading warmth around.
With intelligence shining, like a guiding light,
She worked hard, day and night.

Outgoing and friendly, she touched every heart,
Leaving an imprint that will never depart.
In the garden of love, her presence will bloom,
Titi, you'll live on in our hearts' sweetest tune.

Te amo por siempre Titi Yolanda <3

I have many beautiful memories but I will share two of them:

When I was a child, I always asked Titi Yolanda how old  are you and she would tell me she is 21.  So, I believed her because I was  a small child.  As I got older, I knew she was fooling around with me. We always had a laugh when we celebrated her birthday because she was always 21. 

One summer day, the Escalera family was at Tio Miguel’s house in Clinton.  We were all sitting by the pool  where Titi Yolanda’s son,  Mickey, who was about 4 yrs old, was playing in the pool. He had floaters on his arms so he was ok playing in the water. At one point, Titi saw Mickey in pool splashing water and thought he was drowning.  So she jumped into the pool with her clothes on to get to Mickey, who was fine, but she didn’t float up. Tio Miguel had to jump into the pool with his clothes on to rescue Titi.  Everyone was fine.
Mickey didn’t need to be rescued but Titi did.  Afterwards, we would remember the story and laugh.

Yanda -you were always in my life. You will live in my heart forever. Rest In Peace.

Aunts have no wands or wings,
So they work with wisdom, love, and things.
Having taken on this role,
You loved me right down to my soul.
You offered kindness
And greetings with a hug and kiss,
Each freely out of love which I will miss.
I chose a twinkling star in the sky at night,
To say a prayer for you to it's bright light.
You're in God's Heavens now and no longer in pain,
In my thoughts, you'll always remain.
How lucky I was,
How blessed I've been,
You were more than my Aunt,
You were also like a mom and friend.
I love you and miss you Titi Yolanda .
