Donald Ong Yee, age 74, of Flushing, New York passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. He was the son of Bing Goon Yee and Ruth Wong Yee.
Donald was born and raised in New York City, where he returned after he retired to be close to his family. Though he never married, he had a vast family of relatives and close friends who valued his company and his counsel. An avid collector and cataloguer at heart, one of his proudest achievements was holding together an extended family of over 200 people as the keeper of their oral histories.
He took great pleasure in learning, even until the day that he died. He was especially happy when he could share his knowledge with those who looked up to him.
Donald was predeceased by his beloved sister Doris Quon. He is survived by his two brothers, Larry and his wife Rose, Danny and his wife Stephanie; his niece, Karen Cheverez and her husband Jose Cheverez; his nephew, Douglas, and his grand-nephew and grand-niece Dorian Cheverez and Annabelle Cheverez.
Details for a memorial service to be held in New York in January 2024 will be shared as more details are finalized.
