Edwin (Ed) Lee Horton passed away February 8th 2022 at his home under Hospice care, surrounded by his loving wife and family, after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
Born in Thomaston GA on June 5th, 1951, to Luke Jackson and Mary Lou (Johnson). Edwin moved to
West Palm Beach, FL when he was 2 years old. Although he referred to himself as a “Georgia boy” he was known by many as “One of the Best Ironworkers in South Florida”. Edwin graduated high school in 1969 and started his apprenticeship with Local #402 the following Monday after graduation and was so proud to be a union member for 53 years; until his death. Sunday rides with his family always meant we would hear “I built that building”, “I built that building”, and of course the year, the company, and the crew of men, that all earned his respect throughout the years. The list is lengthy, but prestigious. It started with the Breakers (addition), The Palm Beach International Airport, Palm Beach County Courthouse, many
Condo’s, many Hotels, and many “7-11’s” as he referred to the little less notable projects in Palm Beach,
Broward and Dade Counties, and ended with The Panther Arena, Ed’s last project, due to an injury that
changed his life! Ed had many passions, MOPAR-his 1966 Charger was entered in many car shows and earned awards. This stopped when his buddy passed away and it was just not the same. The University of Miami-it was all about the “U”. All family functions had to be planned with the college football schedules in mind. Even his youngest daughter who was born on September 7th, became a joke that she was not to be born on a game day! Lastly, we all know, he loved his family.
Edwin was married to Susan (Heelan), in 1983 but had a previous marriage to Judy (Fredericks) that resulted in three children, Stacy Lee (Gary Goodwin) deceased 2015, Edwin Lee Jr. (Julie), and Jessica Ann, (Telly Tyson), and then was blessed with Shane Mathew, (Teri), and Sarah Ashley, (Shackeem Frankson) to complete his family. He leaves his grandchildren Becca, Greg, Jonathan, Kyle, Tevaris, Isaiah, Eddie Lee (3rd), Stella and Easton and 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Edwin is also survived by his sister Diane (Charley Davis) of Lake Worth, FL, and preceded in death by
his brother, LJ (Luke Jackson Jr), (wife Susan) of St. Francisville, LA and sister, Marie (husband James
Schoech) of Round Rock, TX.
Ed was cremated upon his wishes, through Edgley Cremation services. While an unpleasant time for
anyone, the family would like to thank John Edgley for making it bearable.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on April 30th, 2022, at Howard Quattlebaum Funeral
Home, 754 US Highway One, North Palm Beach, FL between the hours of 2 and 5.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to the VFW Post #9610, 354 10th Street Lake Park,
