Eva Annette Finlayson Beede, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. While her family mourns her loss, they find comfort in knowing she is now in Heaven.
Eva was born on September 16, 1935, at her family home in Martinvale, Prince Edward Island, Canada, to Samuel and Evelyn Finlayson. She grew up as a farm girl in the communities of Bangor and Brackley Beach on Prince Edward Island, where she developed the strong work ethic, compassion, faith, and sense of community that would define her life.
At the age of 18, Eva moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she met her devoted husband, Charles Beede. They were married in August 1957 and built a loving partnership that spanned nearly seven decades.
Eva’s life revolved around helping others. Whether serving as a volunteer, caregiver, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, or friend, she treated everyone as family. Those who knew her often said, “Nana treated everyone like she was their Nana.” She delighted in baking cookies for neighborhood children, local police officers, and firefighters, and lovingly created baby blankets for family friends and new parents.
Throughout her life, Eva found countless ways to serve others. As a hairdresser, she volunteered her skills at the bedside of nursing home residents during the 1950s. She taught Sunday School, organized Vacation Bible School programs that welcomed children from inner-city communities and volunteered with children in the care of the Department of Children and Families. She always had a special place in her heart for the underdog and believed every person deserved kindness, dignity, and respect.
One of the roles she cherished most was serving as a Hospice Certified Nursing Assistant for nearly fifteen years. She considered it a privilege to care for individuals and families during some of life’s most difficult moments, providing comfort, compassion, and dignity when they needed it most.
Eva was known for her warm smile, generous spirit, and playful sense of humor. She loved to laugh and often enjoyed playing harmless tricks on family and friends. One of her favorite sayings, delivered with a mischievous grin, was, “Big things come in tiny packages, and I may be little, but watch out!”
She also loved traveling and learning about different cultures, embracing every opportunity to meet new people and experience new places.
Eva is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Beede, of Wellington, Florida; her brother, Samuel Finlayson, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada; and her sister, Mary Singleton, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Steven Maxwell, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; her granddaughters, Haley Maxwell, of Delray Beach, Florida, and Caitlin Fuller and her husband, Tyler Fuller, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; and her cherished great-grandson, Tyler Fuller Jr.
In addition, she leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends throughout Prince Edward Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Kansas, Missouri, Florida and Germany.
Eva’s legacy is one of compassion, service, generosity, and unconditional love. Her life touched countless people, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:23
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
