Hazel Elizabeth Montgomery

Hazel Elizabeth Montgomery 95, of North Palm Beach passed away on February 10, 2019. Hazel was born in Colony, Kansas to Elnora and Jess Wilson and her brother Paul in 1923. Attending Colony High School she graduated in 1941, and continued to attend reunions over the years.

In April 1942 she married Harold “Arnie” Arnett in Parsons Kansas and had two sons, Ron, born in Iola KS, and Phil in Merriam KS, at KU Medical Center. Arnie worked as a Railway Mail Clerk, out of Union Station in Kansas City MO. Arnie passed away in 1954. Hazel worked at Bendix corporation in Kansas City, then bought a house in Ruskin Heights.

In 1957 she married Al Montgomery and the family welcomed two daughters, Debbie and Mary. Al worked for Westinghouse Corporation in their jet engine division. When he was transferred to Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of Florida, the family moved to North Palm Beach. Hazel is the last original resident of Lagoon Drive.

In Florida she worked for RCA Corp, and then for Pratt and Whitney, first in the test area, and later as a procurement analyst, retiring after 20 years.

Hazel was active in the UTC Retirees Club serving in many capacities such as sunshine lady and President. She joined Tropical Sands Christian Church shortly after its founding. An active member for 58 years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, deaconess, elder, and as a dedicated member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship ministry.

Favorite activities included camping with her family, and traveling with her husband Al to Europe, China, Hawaii, and Japan, and with her mother to Alaska. She also served as a room mother and reading lady in the schools. She enjoyed water aerobics and was an avid bowler until the age of 89.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband’s Harold C. Arnett and Alexander Montgomery, granddaughter Elizabeth J. Arnett, and stepsons Alexander J. Montgomery, Jr. and Michael Montgomery, and her brother Paul N. Wilson. Hazel is survived by and will be greatly missed by her sons Ronald H. Arnett (Marilyn), Philip R. Arnett, stepson Gerald Montgomery, daughter Deborah Weible (William) and daughter Mary Montgomery, sister-in-law Maxine Wilson. Hazel was a beloved grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Andy, Elizabeth, and Mark Arnett; Jacqueline and Amanda Weible; and Alex, Kevin, Michael, Matthew, Melissa, and Christian Montgomery, and seven great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14th from 5-7 PM, Howard Quattlebaum Funeral and Event Center, 754 US Highway 1, North Palm Beach. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 15th at 12 Noon, Tropical Sands Church, 2726 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta. The few days my family spent with her in Florida 17 years ago. It was a great at to celebrate a Sweet 16! I had so much fun being able to see different parts of Palm Beach and visiting with other family.
