Hank McGann passed on to our Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Hank was the only child born to Henry and Anne McGann on July 13, 1931, in Hartford CT. He was intelligent, independent and a stellar student. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1958, Hank married the love of his life, Mary Jane (Keenan) McGann, and they celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage last September. Hank leaves behind his beloved wife Jane, and their five children, Mark, Kevin, Patty, Laura and Mike, who love him dearly. Hank is also survived by eleven grandchildren who adore him: Christopher, Chris, Richard, Sean, Ryan, Devan, Alex, Caden, Chloe, Kevin and Lee, as well as five treasured great-grandchildren: Rylie, Baylie, Noah, Levi and Sophia. Hank also leaves an extended family of extraordinary nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who share memories and bonds that have lasted a lifetime.
Hank worked for Pratt & Whitney / United Technologies for an incredible forty-two years. He loved his work and was a dedicated, tireless employee whose work ethic is part of his legacy. Hank also left an indelible mark in his work for the unborn. His time, treasure and talent were the driving force in the creation of the Right to Life organization in the state of Connecticut, and for fifty years he was a valued resource for Right to Life, serving as President, volunteer, or quiet supporter of a mother in need.
Hank left a legacy of provision, patience and grace, for which all who knew him are grateful. He loved the weather and aviation, East Beach, watching his sons play baseball, umpiring for Little League, Indian Guides, cookouts, wiffle ball, shooting stars, camping, opera, people from all walks of life, all things Notre Dame, the Catholic Church, and Right to Life. Above all else, Hank loved God, his wife and family. The sadness and loss we feel honors a loving husband and the dad who raised us here on earth. The peace and joy we feel honors the Father who raised dad up to Heaven. Our gratitude for both is beyond words.
