Janice M. Calkins

Janice Marie McGuire Calkins (87) of Jupiter, FL passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026 surrounded by family. Janice was born on February 2, 1939 to Beverly & Francis McGuire in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1956 & then went to work for “Ma Bell” (AT&T). She met Carrol Calkins on a blind date & married him on Oct. 3,1959 in Sioux Falls. Together they raised 2 daughters, Debra Diane & Lori Lynn. Carrol’s job took them to Lincoln, Nebraska, Brookings, South Dakota, Gainesville, Florida, Vienna, Austria, & Yakima, Washington. While in Brookings & Gainesville, she had lots of friends & loved to play bridge. While in Vienna, she loved to walk to the local open market for fresh food & enjoyed going out to dinner at the heurigans. Back to Gainesville, she worked for Otto Kampe, a neighbor who owned a real estate appraisal company, as his secretary/office manager. They then moved to Yakima, Washington. When Carrol retired from the US Dept. of Agriculture in Yakima, they moved to Spearfish, SD for about 10 years. Then moved to Tequesta, Florida to be closer to family. When Carrol passed away in 2018, Janice moved into an assisted living facility in Jupiter, Florida, where she lived until her passing. She had lots of friends there. She loved family & helping others. Janice is predeceased by their 1st infant daughter, Kathleen Marie, her parents, her brother, Glen (Yvonne) McGuire, her husband, Carrol, her sister, Shirley (Gary) Mischke. She is survived by her brother, Wayne (Sharon) McGuire, her sister, Mavis (Ken) Chatzinoff, her daughters Debra (Dan) Rancour, Lori (John) Houchin, 4 grandchildren, Rebecca (Scott) Sibberson, Stephen (Liesl) Rancour, Haley Houchin, JC Houchin, & great granddaughter, Taylor Sibberson, several nieces, nephews, & great nieces & nephews. A family service will be held on June 10, 2026 at 3:00pm at Atria Park of St. Joseph’s, 350 Bush Rd., Jupiter, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Edna W. Runner Education Center, 7187 Edna Runner Way, Jupiter, FL 33458; https://ewrunnerctr.org, in Janice’s name. She & Carrol were very involved in this organization with their daughter, Lori. Janice will be missed dearly!
