John spent his childhood years living in Holyoke. John attended Holy Cross College in Worcester Massachusetts and following graduation entered the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer. John made a career of the Navy and following his retirement he earned his PHD in Business from the University of Oregon. He enjoyed the next stage of his career as a Professor of Business at the University of Oregon.
John and his wife Gwen retired to North Palm Beach Florida in 1999. John enjoyed collecting antiques, painting and lunch outings with his friends. John was a parishioner at St. Clare's Catholic Church in Palm Beach Gardens where he ushered at the Saturday 5:30PM mass.
John is survived by his children Judy Bowen, Eric Cunningham, and Janet Koch. John was preceded in death by his wife Gwen Cunningham and son Mark Cunningham.
