

Julie Wall Martin died peacefully on December 29, at Palm Beach Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Born in London, England, on December 23, 1929, she graduated from London’s Bolton Academy for Girls where she studied retail fashion and design. Soon after the war, she met and married Lloyd L. Martin, a pilot with the elite US Army Air Corps Flying Tigers. Following Lloyd’s discharge from the Judge Advocate’s program in Landon, they moved to Washington, DC, where Julie was employed as a buyer and store manager for Gucci Designs.
In 1984 when she and Lloyd moved to Palm Beach County where Julie discovered her passion and talent for art, eventually studying under the tutelage of her mentor, Sue Archer. During this period, she became a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Women of Watercolor. She participated in numerous local art shows and exhibits including three consecutive years at the Armory Art Center, the John D. McArthur State Park in 2006, the Governors Club in 2007, the South Palm Beach Town Hall Art Show in 2008, and the Lake Worth Art League in 2009 and 2010.
Julie exuded an effervescence characterized by her radiant smile and glowing eyes that would light up a room. As a child during the Battle of Britain, Julie developed a strong will and a joy for life that inspired all who knew her. Known to many as “Aunt Julie”, she was a lovely lady who was adored by family and friends, especially those of her late niece, Frances Joyner.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her beloved Lloyd. As a result, final funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fisher House at the Palm Beach Veterans Hospital, 7305 North Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33410.
