

Lee was born June 8, 1923 in Deland, Florida to Herbert (A Native Floridan born in Deland, FL in 1883) and Virginia Spencer. At 6months old, Lee’s parents moved them to West Palm Beach, FL., where Lee’s father (Herbert) and Uncle (Lee), purchased U&Me Transfer, Inc. in 1923. Lee graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1941. Upon graduation Lee enlisted in the United States Navy. During his military service he served on a sub chaser in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was onboard the ship at the taking of Iwo Jima and witnessed the raising of the American Flag.
After the war, Lee returned to the West Palm Beach area. Upon his return Lee joined, his father and uncle in the family business, U & Me Transfer, Inc. In 1950, he took over U&Me Transfer, Inc., expanding it into a thriving transportation and storage company. Over the years, he founded additional businesses and owned multiple commercial warehouses, playing a pivotal role in the growth of Palm Beach County.
Lee’s community involvement was extensive:
- President, The American Heart Association of Palm Beach County
- Board Member, United Way
- President, Boys & Girls Club (helped establish the club locally)
- Port Commissioner, Port of Palm Beach (16years)
- President, Chamber of Commerce of WPB
- Board member, Flagler Bank
- Board member, FLA Trucking
- President, West Palm Beach Fishing Club
- Member, Sailfish Club, Mayacoo Golf and Tennis Club, Tuscawilla Club, Pelican Golf Group, Jetty Conchs
A passionate fisherman, Lee caught a 43lb snook on May 18,1952, setting an IGFA World Record he held for over 40years. He also loved golf, playing well into his 90’s and was known for his trademark cigars and warm personality.
Lee is survived by his children Gary (Judy) and Jerry (Patricia); five grandchildren Kirby Spencer, Kelly Hlavaty (Erik), Kathryn Housset (Greg), Ryan Spencer (Anna) and Shannon Doran (Andrew); five great grandchildren Hunter, Logan, Olive, Miles, Spencer and Wes.
He was preceded in death by his three wives Mary Lou, Andrea and June, along with his son Jeff (1948 – 2005).
Service and Celebration of Life will be on September 6, 2025 at 11:00am at The United Methodist Church of The Palm Beaches 900 Brandywine Road West Palm Beach, FL 33409
