

Lloyd W. Barry, age 91, died after a brief illness on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and three daughters; Kathryn Warner (John) of Dublin, Ohio, Karen Lambeck (Klaus) of Dublin, Ohio, and Jennifer Bloom (Eric) of Vallejo, California. In addition, he has six grandchildren; Kelsey, Natalie, Michael, Jacqueline, Kaylyn, and Wesli; and four great grandchildren, Collins, Isla, Perry and Judah. Lloyd was predeceased in death by their son, Michael, and by their daughter, Margaret.
A native of Hollis, Oklahoma, Lloyd was the son of Raymond and Jennie Barry. Lloyd was a graduate of Hollis High School, and Cameron State University in Lawton, Oklahoma. As an athlete who played basketball, football and ran track, he also enjoyed participating in rodeos as a bareback bronc rider.
Barry entered Naval Flight Training at Pensacola in 1953. When receiving his Naval Aviator’s wings of gold, he was also commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Lloyd flew various fighter-type aircraft in the U.S., Korea and Japan. He resigned his regular commission in the Marines prior to joining United Air Lines in 1960, and was later discharged with the rank of major. As a United Airlines pilot, Captain Barry flew a wide range of aircraft throughout his career including DC-6, DC-7, DC-8, B-727, B-737 and B-747.
He was appointed a United Airlines Flight Manager in 1977; and after serving in a succession of management positions, Lloyd was elected to the office of Senior Vice President of Flight Operations in 1984. Captain Barry, a 33-year employee of United, retired as Senior Vice President of Flight-Operations in 1989.
Since retiring, he and his wife, Nancy have lived in BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens. He was active in the community and Lloyd served as the first Chairman of the BallenIsles C. C. Board of Governors, and later as a member of the Board of Directors.
