Peggy Whelan went to be with the Lord and other loved ones on Sunday September 3, 2023 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was 94 years old. Peggy and her three sisters did all they could together and referred affectionately by the family as the ‘’Golden Girls.” They traveled and spent as much time together as possible into their “Golden” years.
Peggy was born in Newark, NJ to James and Margaret O’Mara. Peggy graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School and was part of the graduating class of 1946. Peggy held a bookkeeping position in the Probation Dept. of Ocean County NJ prior to retiring in 1991. She also worked at the Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ for many years. After retirement she moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL where she had many happy days in the Florida sun. Her hobbies were being with her grandkids, teaching water aerobics in the community pool for 20 years, word search puzzles and being very active in her community at Sun Terrace @ the Oaks. She also was a member of St Clare Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and The Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2010. She never missed any activities her children and grandkids were in, soccer, football, volleyball and many others. She was their biggest fan.
Peggy was also a very loyal friend to many in both Florida and New Jersey. She was blessed with a close family and good friends who loved her dearly. She kept in touch via Skype, Facetime, E-mail and phone calls or in person for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis M Whelan, son James Sharp, son in law Richard E McKinnon and two sisters Ann Bertolatus and Eileen Clayton.
Peggy is survived by her children; Priscilla McKinnon, Michael E Whelan wife Patti, Jerry Whelan wife Jean and Timothy Whelan wife Ann. Grandchildren: Christopher Whelan wife Megan,
Shay Owens husband Ben, Mary Kathryn Gallaher husband Joe, Michael L Whelan wife Hallie, Anna Whelan, John Whelan, Jake Whelan, Sean Sharp wife Tyler, Cassady Craighill husband Charlie and Andrew Sharp. Great-grandchildren; Aiden B Gallaher, Kaden M Owens, James S Craighill and Edward Craighill and her sister Joan Clark of Point Pleasant, NJ. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Mass will be held at St Clare Catholic Church, 821 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach Florida at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Reception to follow at Knights of Columbus on 11499 Prosperity Farms Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
