I an the father of Bart’s daughter-in-law Karla, a Canadian living in Vancouver. Bart always epitomized, to me, the best in America: a patriot dedicated to defending his country in the USN, a strong family man, good humoured and always ready to share a good story. Memorable for me were his recollections of flying above the Mediterranean on anti-submarine patrol (those Russkies of course) and seeing off to the right the island of Sicily, home of his forebears. My own son-in-law told me his father had returned to Sicily and “kissed the ring” but whose ring I am not sure. Russkies: don’t mess with the Sicilians! Bart, have a good well-earned rest and hopefully we will be able to join you up there!

I came to know Bart when his son Marino married my sister Karla. I will miss him at our family gatherings. His gentle kindness and generosity were remarkable. Always a smile, welcoming all, never a cross word, enjoying great food, and always happy to make room for another at the dinner table. I will remember family time spent on Joes Pond, with fondness. A good man, he will be missed. Sincere condolences to Kathy, Marino, Joe, Beth, Sarah Jake, and all who knew and loved him, like we all did.
