Meredith was born March 20th, 1958 to C. Mont Jones, an aeronautical engineer, and Mary Baker Jones, a school teacher, in Seattle, WA. As a child, he and his family moved to Springfield, PA where he fell in love with ice hockey and tinkering with machinery, going so far as attempting to repurpose his father’s lawn mower into a go-cart more than once. He fled the harsh winters of Pennsylvania to seek refuge in sunny South Florida in the early 1980s. He explored all that South Florida had to offer and called many places home before setting down his roots in North Palm Beach. Over the years, he established himself as a successful businessman and master mechanic, building M & J Automotive in Lake Park from nothing but a floor jack and a dream into the lifeblood of his family.
A true “Renaissance Man” with many hobbies, he could be found doing any number of things when he allowed himself to take a day off. He could be enjoying the latest John Grisham novel, crossing the ocean on a clear day, conquering a mountain on skis, burning rubber on his motorcycle, or simply relaxing with a cigar and a cup of coffee on his back patio while playing solitaire on his phone with the volume at full blast. His greatest interest and passion, however, was supporting his friends and family. His matter of fact, cantankerous, and sometimes gruff exterior was the “flavor” on top of a generous, wise, humble, good-spirited man that reached out his hand to so many who needed help expecting nothing in return.
Survived by his two children, Katrina and Austin, they remember him fondly as a fun-loving, hardworking, dedicated father who loved them beyond compare. He was extremely involved in their lives, attending every game, recital, or ceremony, and sharing in every milestone no matter how small. They have always been and will always be proud to say they are Meredith’s children.
The family will be hosting a celebration of his wonderful, ever-impactful life on April 6th, 2024 from 4 - 7PM at Belle’s at Safe Harbor - Old Port Cove. There will be a brief memorial at 4:30PM followed by a time to gather and share your favorite memories with family and friends. Appetizers and refreshments will be provided.
Meredith loved to both give and receive flowers – specifically Easter Lilies and Orchids. In his honor, rather than providing flowers to the family or the event, the family suggests sending them to a relative you may have lost contact with, a friend battling hardship, or to a stranger who may otherwise not receive them. To those who wish to contribute monetary donations in his name, the family suggests they be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, mental health/suicide prevention organizations, or local children’s programs encouraging education and technical training.
