Patricia (Tricia) Pitton died unexpectedly at her home in Palm Beach Gardens. She was born in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Raymond and Genevieve Pitton. The family moved to Palm Beach Gardens in 1976, and Tricia graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School in 1980. She received her BA from Brown University, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan “Go Blue!”, and a Master in English Literature from the University of Virginia. Early in her career, she worked for the League of Women Voters, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, both in Washington, D.C. After moving back to Palm Beach Gardens, Tricia joined the staff at Suncoast Community High School as an English teacher, teaching both AP and IB English courses, and continued to teach there up to her death.
Tricia is survived by her brother, Mark, and his wife, Amy; niece Bethany Harrington, husband Jeremy and their children Charlotte and Samuel; nephew Wesley Pitton; aunt and uncle Priscilla and Bill Johnston and cousin Brad Johnston; and her beloved pets, Thornton, Bronte, and Ruki. She was predeceased by her parents.
Tricia’s life was exemplified by a deep belief in the importance of education for all, evidenced by her passion for teaching, not only literature, but critical thinking.
She was fiercely passionate about equal rights for women. She loved cooking, playing Ultimate, and was a diehard Red Sox fan. She was a loyal and generous friend throughout her life. She will be very missed by her family, friends, colleagues and students.
