Bob was born in Hartford, CT on March 23, 1955, to the late Claire & Arthur Munroe. He lived in Enfield, CT as a young man, before moving to Lake Park, FL in the early 1980’s. Bob married Diane (Dee) Schack on Groundhog Day, 2/2/1991 in Windsor, CT 35 years ago.
Bob was a self-employed diesel mechanic, (best ever)! Self-taught over the past 50+ years. He worked on everything and anything that came his way. There was truly nothing he could not diagnose and fix. Bob was a simple, talented, giving gentleman who loved helping and teaching others. Prior to his own business, he was employed by Al Packer Ford and Murphy’s (Sister’s) Towing.
As a young man, he liked to race and work on modifies at Riverside Park in Agawam, MA and the Northeast. Bob and his friends loved to snowmobile into the evening and early am hours throughout CT, MA & NY.
He helped a friend who was relocating, by piloting a large vessel through Lake Okeechobee and the Locke’s, along the Panhandle, through the Gulf of Mexico, the Mississippi and Louisiana coastline to its new home in Texas. He even outfitted the boat with larger gas tanks prior to the trip.
An ambitious undertaking, Bob built our motor boat, "The Teddy Lee”, from the hull up, electrical & propulsion system, steering mechanism, center console, upper decking, side rails, cockpit, bow pulpit, gas tanks, fiberglass, all hardware and engine rebuilding. Docked on the Earman River, we fished and partied for 30 years, making several trips up the ICW to Pt. Salerno and Palm City with family & friends.
Another proud memory, is the time Bob converted a diesel generator from a yacht, here in Palm Beach, to our home to run power during hurricane season. It ran the entire home and it hummed with electricity. He was so talented.
Bob donated and transported with the help of friends: “The Cannon” a very, very old, cannon from a battleship (gunboat) to the American Legion 141. To this day, the cannon sits outside of 141 as part of the grounds. It was and will always be one of his proudest moments.
Finally, there was his annual Vero Beach Villa trips at The Driftwood Inn. You knew he was in town by the smell of bacon wavering along the boardwalk, as he made breakfast. And there was Waldo’s, his hangout, where he would relax, eat, drink & be merry.
But most of all, he loved talking and joking with all his friends at VFW 9610 & American Legion 141.
Besides Dee, he leaves behind his older brother Bill Munroe, (Lynn deceased), and younger brother Rick Munroe & spouse, Sheila. Bob was predeceased by his youngest brother, David, who was waiting in Heaven to receive Bob.
He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, a special step-sister, Dianne Machado, and his mother-in-law, Janice Schack and family.
Thank you all, family, friends & customers over the years for being a part of Bob’s life. He loved you all!
A celebration of life will be at a future date.
