
POWELL, Ruth Maxine (nee, Burr), Age 101, of North Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Linden, Michigan, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Florida. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 12:00 noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Rd in North Palm Beach, Reverend Walter Arnold III officiating. A Graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Linden, MI.
Mrs. Powell was born on September 24, 1911 in Linden, daughter of Clifford J. and Evangeline Bowles Burr. She is survived by five nieces and two nephews in Michigan; Beverly Mancour Wheatley Eiden of Linden, Lynne Merrill-Francis of Detroit, Alice Merrill Miller of Howell, Elizabeth “Buffy” Williams of Swartz Creek and Loretta Mullins of Millington; nephews Gary Burr of Durand and David Merrill of Fenton; a niece and nephew in California, Carol Burr Glaush in Lincoln and James R. Burr of Gillroy she also had two step-daughters in Florida, Margaret Powell Hendry of Clearwater and Betty Powell Barbuzano of Pompano Beach. She was beloved of many people including a number of Grand nieces and nephews and a special friend, Benito Rakower, PhD.
She was a serious student of genealogy and belonged to many hereditary organizations including: Seminole Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Regent of Ezra Parker Chapter DAR, President of Huguenot Society of Michigan, Elder of the Society of Mayflower Descendents, State President Society of Women Descendents of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co., Vice President of the Florida Genealogical Society, Life member of the Linden Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Florida Genealogical Society, Colonial Dames of America, National Society of the Colonial Dames of the XV11 Century, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, National Society of New England Women, National Society United States Daughters of 1812 War Hawks Chapter 358, New England Historic Genealogical Society and the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Frederic Powell, PhD.
