Sally was born to Jeanne and Jay Stranahan in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on October 22, 1943. She was the middle child of three siblings. Her father was relocated to St Louis Park, Minnesota and later to Hinsdale, Illinois where she met her then husband, James Simcoke. They shared a daughter, Suzy.
Sally began her career in real estate sales and then into property management.
She was beautiful, stylish and always fashionable. Her purse and shoes always coordinated. Sally never left the house without her lipstick.
Sally had the most generous heart and would ask herself daily how she could be a blessing to someone else. She never forgot a birthday and without fail, would shop once a month with her list, making certain she had a card for every friend and loved one’s birthday. As an avid reader, she would sign up at the library for new book releases of her favorite authors.
Sally was a free spirit and fiercely independent. She could pick up and move to a new state on a whim. It was never difficult for Sally to meet new people and become fast friends. She could do anything she set her mind to and made sure her daughter learned those life skills too. Sally filled her daughter’s life with adventures, travel, the arts, and always unconditional love.
She loved gardening and animals. Sally spent many years volunteering at J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel Island, Florida.
Sally would spend time in New York with her daughter, son in law and twin granddaughters for special events and Christmas holidays. Affectionately known as Mame, to her granddaughters after her love of the movie “Auntie Mame”, those were special times baking cookies, going into New York City to visit the tree at Rockefeller Center and trips to the museums. Sally spent one
summer with her granddaughters teaching them how to grow their own vegetable garden. She was so proud of her granddaughters, always sharing their accomplishments with her friends.
Sally is survived by her devoted daughter, Suzy and son in law, Jay Alpert, granddaughters, Molly and Mackenzie Alpert, sister Nancy Hanger, brother Jeffrey Stranahan and many nieces and nephews.
At Sally’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations may be made to J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, a place that Sally loved. https://www.fws.gov/refuge/jn-ding-darling/visit-us/locations/jn-ding-darling-national-wildlife-refuge
