
Sawyer “Tommy” Thompson, Jr., 84 years old of Juno Beach, FL passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1926, Tommy has been a resident of Florida since 1960. He earned his engineering degree from Cornell University and a Masters in Business from Columbia University. He held a variety of engineering and management positions over his forty year career in the aerospace industry, retiring from Pratt & Whitney in 1987. He established Thompson Associates, a business consulting firm and conducted business courses at Palm Beach Community College and Florida Atlantic University. He served on the boards of The Loxahatchee River Environmental Control District and Friends of the Loxahatchee charitable organization. He was elected to the Juno Beach City Commission and served as mayor in the early 1970’s. Tommy was an active member of the Republican Party, a WWII Navy Veteran Officer and a member of the Navy League, Cornell Engineering Alumni Association and American Legion. Earlier he co-founded The Sayville Musical Workshop (New York) and performed in a number of its productions. He enjoyed his grandchildren, music, travel, square dancing, golf, and was a member of the Hobe Sound Golf Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Virginia, son Drew and daughter-in-law Donna, sons, William and Richard and grandchildren, Breanna, William, Sawyer, Maya and Ava.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, September 17, 2010 at Bethesda-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church, 141 South County Road, Palm Beach, Florida 33480 with a reception to follow
