Of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away on August 15, 2021 at 84 years of age. He was born in Schenectady, New York on December 21, 1936 to Emilio and Guistina Tonon DeGasperis. His parents instilled in him his lifelong mantra “Family is most important”. That included many friends along the way.
Siro is survived by his devoted wife Roberta, his brother Lino DeGasperis, and his children, Darlene (Robert) Dachille, Deborah (Ron) Kaplan, and David (Lori) DeGasperis. He leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Lauren Lachoff, Adam Zuckerbrow, Jessica Zuckerbrow, Gina Klaverweiden, and Julia DeGasperis, and his great grandchildren Ethan Zuckerbrow, Jackson and Julia Lachoff. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Gemma Vigliotti.
Siro graduated in 1957 from Bryant College, now Bryant University, in Providence, Rhode Island. He eventually found his lifetime career with United Parcel Service. Starting as a clerk in Utica, New York, he rose through the ranks and 33 years later retired as Vice President of Public Affairs in 1993. Siro and Roberta traveled the world. They were often accompanied by up to 21 family members, a witness to his love of family, and parties, and the importance of keeping 4 generations together. Living in PGA National for many years, Siro was on the PGA Board of Governors and President of the Homeowners Association. He was on the Board of Directors of the Max Fisher Boys and Girls Club in Riviera Beach. It was his honor to be so involved there.
Siro formed The DeGasperis Family Foundation to benefit his church, his college, and funded The National Veterans Wheelchair Games softball event. This was dear to his heart as he played with the Yankees in 1954 & 1955.
He helped so many in his lifetime, making them part of our family. I would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Kenneth Fuquay, who gave Siro many more years than we thought possible, Father Aidan Lacy, of our parish, St. Patrick Church for comforting Siro many times and Jupiter Medical Center for their outstanding care.
Due to Covid, Interment will be private. A Memorial Mass and luncheon will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Siro’s honor can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Palm Beach County, 800 Northpoint Parkway, STE 204, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407, https://bgcathome.org/.
