Steven George Haynie

Steve was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 2, 1957, the first of three sons of Kenneth and Millie Haynie. The family relocated to Des Moines a month later, where Steve greeted the arrival of his brothers Tom and Jim with boundless energy and enthusiasm. He considered it his job to take care of his brothers and maintained that belief throughout his life.

Steve attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines where he excelled in many sports and was a captain of both the football and baseball teams. He went on to graduate from the University of Iowa. After graduation, he built a successful career in sales and marketing across a variety of industries. Steve spent several years living in Portland, OR and Orange County, CA, before moving to Palm Beach Gardens in 2010 to help care for close family members.

Steve enjoyed playing golf throughout his life, particularly if the rest of his foursome included his dad and two brothers. Following in the footsteps of his mother, Steve loved to, and was an excellent, cook. He was at his happiest when enjoying a good meal with friends and family.

Steve was a man who held strong beliefs and opinions and readily provided valuable advice to his family, friends, and business associates. He was a clear thinker with the ability to get to the heart of any matter. Steve could always be counted on to follow through—if family or friends were in difficult times, he extended himself to do what was necessary.

His family and friends will miss him deeply. He was the beloved son of Kenneth H. Haynie of Des Moines, IA and the late Millie T. Haynie. He was the loving brother of Thomas S. Haynie (Roxanne Elings) of New York, NY and James P. Haynie (Gretchen) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Ipswich, MA. He is also survived by his nephew John (Jack) E. Haynie of Cambridge, MA, his niece Altana Elings-Haynie of Chicago, IL, and his nephew Roscoe D. Elings-Haynie of Portland, OR.

A Celebration of Life honoring Steve will be held at the Des Moines Golf & Country Club from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on October 25th.
