Yvonne Dawson Pottle, 77, passed away on September 17, 2016, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Yvonne was born in Boston and raised in Weymouth, MA where she met, and in 1963, married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Gregory Michael Pottle. In 1967 they moved to Palm Beach County where they bought a home and raised their daughters, Betsy and Michele. When the girls were grown, Yvonne and Mike traveled the world for Mike’s job. They lived for a time in Singapore and in Taiwan where Yvonne volunteered in local schools teaching the children English. Yvonne was a fearless adventurer with unlimited energy. She traveled solo, without an interpreter, throughout Indonesia, making friends and experiencing a world that most of us will never see. Mike passed from this life in 2004. Yvonne honored his memory and loved him always.
Yvonne was a friend to everyone she met and she gave unselfishly to those who needed her. She would drive across the country to care for a sick friend, or to attend an elderly cousin’s 90th birthday. Yvonne kept lifelong friendships alive, she was the glue that often held them together. For all of her adult life Yvonne served as a member of The Order of Eastern Star where she held many offices. Yvonne was a volunteer at Timber Trace Elementary for many years, helping young students learn to read. When she was 70 years old she traveled on a mission in Guatemala to help build a library at the mission school. Yvonne had a strong, beautiful spirit and she was young at heart. Yvonne understood the meaning and value of friendship, and she knew the importance of family. She lived her life in service to her family, her friends, her community, and God. Yvonne was an example to all who were blessed to know her.
Yvonne is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Ruby Sarty, and her sister, Judy Staaterman. She is survived by her brother, Ralph (Judy) Sarty, Jr, and many loving nieces and nephews. Yvonne is survived by her devoted daughters, Betsy (Don) Ewer, and Michele (Chris) Haire, and her beautiful grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Chelsea (Steve) Brotman, Drew (Michelle) Ewer, Alex Haire, and Reece Haire, her great-grandchildren: Jacob Ewer, Luke Ewer, Lucy Brotman, and “Sunny” Dawson Brotman (who will bless us with her arrival into this world in early October.
