Aimee was always a mum to all of Dorothy's friends. After school those of us with working mothers flocked to the warmth and kindness of this gracious woman. She made us feel loved, sheltered and above all respected. As an adult my tea and cookies with Aimee turned to a nice glass of scotch together and some lovely book chats. She was all that is good in the world.

" I fondly remember the visits to have tea with Aunt Aimee and Uncle George.Grannie and Grandpa were so pleased to take my sisters (Heidi & Robyn)  and I to the Murrell home. I was delighted to have the Murrell's at my wedding!
Later, I remember the kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity extended to my newborns, Kaitlyn and Russell. Aunt Aimee was a truly remarkable woman. So beautiful....both on the inside and out."

Many years ago, when I was an undergraduate, I would find myself at the Murrell's, with Dorothy and other friends, with some frequency.  And, more often than not, there would be Dorothy's mum (as I then knew her) the very picture of dosmetic warmth and welcome.  Of course, the tea and cookies are hard to forget, but a more lasting impression is the charm, the wit, the sense of depth and intelligence of this person whom I've really known mostly in these pretty socially circumscribed circumstances.  Considering how few times I saw her after those times, many years ago, my feelings of respect and affection for "Dorothy's mum" have always been all out of proportion.  She was that kind of person. I will miss her.

Dear Chris, Over all the years of our acquaintance, I met your mother perhaps half a dozen times, but always left such meetings warmed by her graciousness, hospitality, and charm.  Her gardens next door, and her knowledge of every plant, awed me!  You have been 'losing' your mother slowly over recent years, perhaps preparing for this final moment: nevertheless, it's still hard to lose a mum.  Please accept my sympathies.
