Ali-Asghar Mazhari, 87, of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Batool Rahmatian, his brother Amir (the youngest of three brothers and two sisters), his three children, Mehdi (Meron), Hossein, Marmar (Howard) and five grand children, Soraya, Leila, Arman, Kian and Ziba.
Ali was first and foremost a caring husband, father, brother and grandfather. His passion for spirituality led him to Sufism many decades ago, and until recently he was a well respected member of the Vancouver branch of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order.
His professional career in Iran spanned three decades, beginning as the first radio producer and broadcaster at Radio Kerman and culminating as a twice elected member of parliament, representing his hometown of Kerman from 1972-1978. However, due to the political climate of the country he ultimately made the tough decision to leave Iran and immigrated to Canada in 1985.
He was an avid reader and writer, and during his 38 years in Canada, published numerous works of fiction and poetry in the Persian language.
He was always interested and involved in charitable work, and helping people inside and outside of Iran.
Ali was a mentor to many and was always generous with his time and wisdom. He cherished his close relationship with his many nieces and nephews.
His absence will be deeply felt.
