Anne was born on May 29, 1918 on the farm near Bruno Sk., where she spent her early years. She attended Kildrum Country School. She often related how much she enjoyed playing ball and how good she was.
Vancouver beckoned her in her early 20’s where she helped her brother and sister in law after the birth of their twin daughters. Following that, she worked in the kitchen at Shaughnessy Hospital, where she met her husband Mike and married him on April 26, 1952. She continued to work in the food industry, but began to manage catering details at the Bayshore Inn.
After many years of living and caretaking in apartment buildings, Mike and Anne built a house on Maple Drive in Richmond which was their pride and joy. Their home was a welcoming place for friends and family. She loved to garden, cook and bake so food was always abundant. No one left feeling hungry. They continued to welcome friends and family into their condo on Gilbert Drive. Anne and Mike had many happy years, but also some challenges. They coped with her bout of breast cancer in the 1960’s and losing her legs due to thrombosis at the age of 90. Both of them adjusted to life in a nursing home. Mike predeceased her in 2014.
She excelled at handiwork, cake decorating, sewing, needle point, knitting and crocheting. Due to macular degeneration, she was unable to enjoy these hobbies in her last years so she tried water color painting and enjoyed that.
Anne was a true quintessential lady, always taking great care about her appearance. She usually wore a skirt or dress with coordinating clothes and accessories and her hair made up.
Rosewood Manor became her home and community for the last 5 years. According to conversations with people at Rosewood Manor, she will be missed for her kindness and sense of humour.
Heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Rosewood Manor and Richmond Hospital who took care of her.
Internment will take place on Saturday, October 5 @ 1:00 @ Ocean View Cemetery followed by lunch and socializing at Rosewood Manor, 6260 Blundell Road, Richmond.
