It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Hunter Dixon on Thursday, April 17, 2025, after a 16-month battle with cancer.
Born in Christchurch, New Zealand and raised in Vancouver, Tony was a devoted educator who retired from the Computing Science Department at Simon Fraser University in 2016 after a distinguished career. He was a proud graduate of the University of British Columbia, where he earned his PhD in Computing Science and met his wife Patricia (Patty). They were married in 1972.
Tony is remembered for his keen intellect, love of the outdoors, and dedicated service to his community, including nearly twenty years coaching with the North Shore Girls Soccer Club and officiating with the BC Summer Swimming Association. His passions included hiking the North Shore trails, stamp and coin collecting, reading, astronomy, gardening, and his many fish and cats.
Predeceased by his wife Patty in 2016, Tony is survived by his three daughters Kirsten (Danny), Tory, and Kim; four grandchildren Hunter, Dryden, Jack, and Wyatt; brothers Peter and Christopher; his sister Penny; sisters-in-law Debbie (Ken) and Kathy; and his two nieces and five nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 2pm at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Rescue Team Society. https://www.northshorerescue.com/donate/
