Audrey was born in Saint Paul’s Hospital, of Vancouver, BC May 2, 1919. She lived with her parents Dorothy and Archibald Wylie and younger sitster Dorothy on Elgin Street Vancouver, BC. Audrey attended Richard McBride Elementary School and John Oliver High School. Audrey went to Windsor United Church singing in the church choir. Audrey loved music, studying piano, passing level/grade 13 of The Trinity College of Music London, winning a silver medal at one of the many competitions she entered, eventually qualifying as instructor.
Audrey met her husband Charles Henry Stowell at the Windsor United Church choir. Charlie also attended John Oliver High School.
Audrey and Charlie married in 1945 and welcomed their daughter Pamela Leslie Dawne in July 1954.
After the breakup of her marriage Audrey studied bookkeeping and accounting at night while working full time in these fields to provide for herself and her daughter. Audrey retired in 1986 to the home she built on Bowen Island with her 2 cats, Peachy and Punkie. Audrey spent her retirement planning and planting her gardens, swimming, and walking around the Island. Audrey got cancer and returned to the mainland for operations and treatment. She and her daughter moved to Richmond; and again Audrey – after beating cancer – planted another beautiful garden. Audrey loved gardening and enjoyed belonging to many of the local garden clubs.
As her health began to fail once she reached her centennial year, Audrey moved to Arbutus Long Term Care where she passed away November 26, 2025. A big thank you to the staff there for their compassionate and loving care during Audrey’s stay.
