January 13, 1919 – December 25th 2021
Our precious mum slipped peacefully away from us at the spectacular age of 102, just 19 days shy of her 103rd birthday.
Mum was always active, both in her home and community. She was a woman of many talents. Mum had excellent taste and a flair for interior design, did beautiful handwork of every kind, was an active member of St. Giles United Church, volunteered for numerous causes including Meals on Wheels, and following in her father’s footsteps – a baker by trade - she was renowned for her delicious baking. Mum was the chauffeur extraordinaire. She was always driving us to our various lessons and activities. Only when we became independent did she decide to become a golfer and join dad as a member of Marine Drive Golf Club. There she could be found either out on the links or at the Bridge table. Whatever mum undertook, she did so with passion, commitment, and that streak of stubbornness we can laugh about now!
Mum was predeceased by her wonderful husband Robert (Bob) 1999, her grandson Adam and son-in-law Thomas Gray. She is survived by her daughters Jane Purdie and Robyn Anderson, granddaughter Elissa (Clay Barron) and grandson Brock Anderson, her only sibling brother Harold, as well as three nieces and a nephew in Eastern Canada.
We have so many cherished memories of wonderful times spent together, including skating at Kerrisdale Arena and the Arbutus Club, enjoying the backyard swimming pool and vacationing at our second home in Maui.
A lady of strong character and convictions, Mum loved and was loved beyond measure. With abundant appreciation and admiration for the exceptional daughter, sister, wife, mum, auntie, grandma and friend that she was, she will never be forgotten, living on in our hearts forever. We said goodbye to her after a life well lived.
The ravages of dementia really took mum, as we knew her, quite some time ago. Kind, thoughtful, and ever so protective of her family, we feel mum’s passing on Christmas Day was purposeful. Wanting to release us from the sorrow and worry of watching her further decline, she gave us this one final gift. Now we can be at peace, knowing that she is at peace and will be reunited with those family members and good friends that passed before her.
We will be forever grateful for the compassionate care provided by her caregivers, both at home and latterly at the Good Samaritan Delta View Care Home. We would like to extend a special thank you to Rose, Vicky, Julieta, Nely and Margie, who looked after her with the utmost love.
Honouring mum’s wishes there will be no service held. If you should so choose, donations to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia would be most appreciated.
