My memories of Danny Daniels all revolve around Pagliacci's Restaurant in Victoria, The Balkan Jam, and ouzo on ice. He was very pleasant, generous and exuberant company! My father Robin Skelton who was a fellow professor at UVic, however, knew Danny much better than I did and valued his friendship very greatly. My best wishes to the family.

I was a freshman in 1985, and Professor Daniels not only taught me philosophy, but how to write a decent 5-paragraph essay. I am a tenured associate professor at CUNY, but only because Professor Daniels taught me a skill my own department did not value. I cannot begin to describe the admiration for this wonderfully humane and human teacher. I will raise a glass in his memory.

I was sorry to hear about Charlies death, he taught me a lot of Tai Chi and is one of the memories that have stayed with me for decades.  Peace to all.  Comfort and courage in your grief zhenhua

WE only knew Charlie for a few years as a neighbour. He would practice his TaiChi in the school yard across the street most mornings in an effort to keep the Parkinson's at bay. He was always making the effort to get out into the community as much as possible, and in conversation would never hesitate to curse the dreaded parkinsons which afflicted him. In passing we have learned so much more about Charlie and wish we could have spent more time with him. I'm sure that he was a hoot to all his buddies and knew how to have a good time. 
Charlie was brave in facing his condition as no one else could be. We do and will miss him.

I am so sad to hear about Charlie's passing.  Tom and I will miss Charlie very much.  We always enjoyed Charlie's lively laughter and the good natured conversations we had together. And we will miss sharing  Charlie's passion for music, tai chi and food.  Zhenhua, we will be thinking of you at this sad time. Love Ana

I regret that I was not in more frequent contact with you.  I forwarded scientific updates as I knew of them, but that is NOT the same thing.  I remember with great fondness your humor and professorial voice. They bring a big smile to my face.  Mom is going to miss you greatly - she so enjoyed your frequent calls over the past few years.  I could not be with her this past weekend due to my illness, and I did not want to risk her contracting it, but Denny and I will be with her this weekend.  She misses you terribly - you were so wonderful to her (and me) in recent months.

I understand it all.  I wish I could have been greater support to you.  We will support Zhenau and Judy - do not worry.  I wish I could have known you better.
