He leaves behind his partner Denise and their daughter Sophia (Mike), along with his sister Sylvia, his nephews Ashley and Neema, brothers-in-law Alan (Christine) and Peter, together with many other nieces and nephews in the U.K., including many relatives on Vancouver Island . Closest friends Bjorn and Mary Lee who the family have known for close to 45 years, and who have provided comfort and support to Denise and Sophia. David was predeceased by his father Frank and his mother Sonjia.
David had few hobbies, his main passion being cars. He loved to drive no matter where or for how long and was an excellent driver, always careful and considerate of other drivers. He also loved to travel, which he did throughout Europe from his early years.
David’s mother was born in Hanover and he spoke fluent German. At the age of 18, he went to work for the Navy, Army, Air Force Institute (NAAFI) in Germany for two years. On his return, he worked in his dad’s clothing factory until he got a job with Weetabix. He continued to work for the company after he married Denise and they emigrated to Canada .
David was a born salesman and he greatly enjoyed his career. His last job was as Sales Manager for Dovre Import & Export Ltd. in Richmond , B.C., an importer and exporter of specialty food brands around the world. He was a valued employee, well liked and respected by everyone in the company. He retired in 2011 and, initially, it took some time for him to relax. He missed interacting with people and putting deals together but, eventually, he settled comfortably into the slower pace of retirement. Unfortunately, he did not have many years before he developed COPD, the disease that robbed him a little more each day of his ability to enjoy life to the full.
The one thing about David that will be remembered most was his ability to make people laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was never at a loss for a funny story. No matter the setting or the occasion, he had a punch line at the ready and could wring laughter from his audience, even until the end.
David will be cremated and no service by request.
He will be missed so much by so many.
