April 29 1935 - May 3, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Dawn Stanley (nee Pomeroy) A fun loving and mischievous woman, Dawn told many tales of hanging out in trees waiting for Auntie Dorothy to return home from school and also spoke fondly of her days as a ticket girl at the Studio theatre on Granville Street where everything was so exciting!. It was there she met her future husband Alan (passed in 2007) and his sisters Mina and Flo who took her under their wings and made her feel welcome into the Stanley clan.
A full life of family, travel (Hawaii, Greece, Europe) plus curling and so many friends was to follow! Her favorite expressions included Uff dah! and No No No! (to the dog and grandkids!) And “I’m fine!", which was her go-to response - right up to the day before she passed. Dawn was determined, strong and some might say stubborn, yet she was also kind and welcoming with a ready smile for all.
Mom had a life and leaves behind her two daughters Alana (Kirk) and Dorothy Ann and grandchildren Alisha, Kaitlin and Erica. The love she had for her sister Dorothy McLennan (jand neices Karen and Janet), was unsurpassed. The two could talk for hours. Mom looked forward to her weekly visits with Aunty Dorothy and there was so much love between them. The Stanley clan was her second family and many mis/adventures happened with them as well.
Mom and her many friends (like Marlene and Carol) had parties, walked, played cards ,curled at The Winter Club and supported each other over the years. Mom dutifully made the required skating costumes for us kids, drove on to the many Track events and was heard to “cheer “ us on from the stands shouting, “Pick up your feet!”
She loved the motorhome vacations with Papa and her Grandkids up at Harrison Hot Springs and was even known to enjoy the quiet of going out in the aluminum skiff to accompany Dad on his fishing excursions.
In her later years Dawn found comfort and support from the wonderful people at the Lynn Valley United church and we thank them all for their kindness.
Dawn always kept a clean and tidy home with hot food for dinner every night and she made everyone feel welcome to join us at the table.
We hope she has found a place that is just as welcoming and that she finds our dad for their first and final dance.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Dawn on
Friday June 14th at 11am at the Lynn Valley United Church.
