JARVIS (nee KARR), Denise Patricia (Denny)
March 8, 1938 - November 28, 2020
It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Denise on November 28, 2020 at age 82 with family by her side.
Denise was born and raised on Neville Park Blvd, near The Beaches area of Toronto, Ont. She attended Moulton College and Branksome Hall schools. After graduating and working as a Registered Nurse at Ottawa Civic Hospital, Denise earned her wings as a flight attendant with Trans-Canada Airlines based in Toronto. She met and married the love of her life, Donald Leslie Jarvis, then moved to Chatham, Ontario where she continued nursing at Chatham General Hospital and starting her family. After returning to Toronto in 1965, she worked briefly at St. Michael's Hospital before giving birth to her second son. Denise moved the family with adventurous spirit in 1968 to North Vancouver, where the birth of her 3rd son was celebrated. With her family growing up, Denise returned to the workforce as an Education Assistant at Handsworth Secondary School.
Denise was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and dog owner. She loved playing the piano and guitar, sailing with her husband and members of the Gulf Yacht Club on DeeJay II, and walking her dogs on Kilmarnock Crescent and through Lynn Canyon Park. She enjoyed skiing, playing tennis, camping, canoeing, bicycling, bird watching, gardening and traveling across Canada with her family. She was a kind and friendly neighbour, and enjoyed her service and singing with the choirs of Lynn Valley and Highlands United Churches. Denise very much enjoyed performing with the North Shore Light Opera and then for over 25 years with the Maple Leaf Singers.
Denise was predeceased by her loving mother Sybil Karr (nee: Fraser), father William Herbert Karr, brother Ronald Karr and sister Sybil (Billie) Burns (nee: Karr). She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Don, sons Blair, Andrew and Ian, and grandchildren Jessica, Bobby and Julia, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
At a later date, a Celebration of Life will be viewable at Highlands United Church archives. In the meantime, condolences may be sent to Boal Chapel at firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com and/or dignitymemorial.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations to BCSPCA in memory of Denise would be gratefully accepted.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Jarvis family.
