Surrounded by his family, Dwaine passed peacefully on October 27, 2025. Born on June 4, 1936 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, no one could have guessed at everything he would accomplish during his lifetime. He met the love of his life, Sylvia at the age of 17. They had three boys, Paul, Perry and Peter and lived and worked at many locations throughout Canada.
Those lucky enough to have known him will have endless memories of his quick wit and jovial laughter. He always had a joke or a limerick to share with everyone he met. He had a huge heart, and a genuine love for life that always brought a smile to anyone around him.
Dwaine was in the newspaper industry early on in life, and when he landed in Vancouver he ended up at Uniglobe Travel, which was a perfect spot for his character.
His compassion around Christmas time will be remembered with great gratitude, as he spent endless hours collecting donations to be taken to those in need, his car always full to the brim with items.
On the hobby side of things, his other passion in life was umpiring baseball and hockey refereeing, between the two sports he would oversee nearly 15000 games over a 50 year period. If you played hockey or baseball in Nova Scotia or British Columbia in the past 50 years, it’s likely he called you out on strikes, or threw you in the penalty box for tripping.
He had a love for speaking, and over the past decade or more, took part in the local Toast Masters. He loved to write and share stories with anyone that would listen, and Toast Masters was absolutely the place for Dwaine. Thank you Toast Masters for providing Dwaine with such an important outlet in his life.
Dwaine is survived by his wife Sylvia, their three children Paul (Ariel), Perry (Kazuko) and Peter (Deanna), three grandchildren Eric, Hanna, and Hayden (deceased) (who we are sure was waiting with a beer for Dwaine on arrival), his brother Laverne (Barbara) and his sister Sylvia Bouside (Gerry).
Arrangement for a celebration of life will be announced sometime in spring of 2026.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite local charity.
