Elisabeth (“Liz”) was born in Heerlen, The Netherlands on March 18, 1939. Her family immigrated to Canada when she was a teenager where they eventually settled in London, Ontario. She and her three sisters were excited to live in a new country and start a new life. She would go on to study with, and later work for, the Canadian Red Cross as a Laboratory Technologist.
Liz married in 1967, moved to Quebec, and had two sons, Denis and Patrick. In 1980, she and her sons moved to British Columbia to be nearer to family. She would go on to work as a Laboratory Technologist for Vancouver General Hospital in their immunology department and contribute and support BC’s organ transplant program. She retired in 2002.
In her retirement, Liz stayed active by volunteering her time at Richmond Hospital and Gilmore Gardens Retirement Residence in Richmond, BC. For over 40 years, she pursued her love of tennis, playing the game well into her seventies with her group of dedicated friends.
Liz is predeceased by her parents Maria and Henri Nederlands, her sister Mary Tiede, and brother-in-law Peter Rowlands. She is survived by her sisters Fien (“Joey”) Rowlands and Jeanne (“Shan”) Fowler; brother-in-law Richard Fowler; sons Denis and Patrick Michaud; daughter-in-law Paula Bentley; grandchildren Tristan, Talen, John James (“JJ”), Angela, and Jethro; and great-grandchildren Vincent, Jayden, and Arinabella.
She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be profoundly missed. Safe travels Liz.
