With great sadness I am sorry to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of my Mom, Elizabeth L Bishop. Survived by her son, Brock, her grandkids, Shaelin and Jake, their mother, Maria, niece Elizabeth, nephews Jim and Matt, and their mother Mary. Predeceased by her husband, Mel in 2017, her brother Lee and the tragic loss of her oldest son, Jonathan in 1974.
'Betty', to old friends and 'Nana' to many, was a remarkable, charismatic lady with a magnetic personality who was an absolute joy to be around. Her motto was 'Say Yes to everything, life's more fun that way' and she walked her talk. She was interested in everything. She woke up every day with people to see, places to go and things to do. Among her favourite things were tennis, gardening, golf, sailing, skiing, exploring, camping, wine (red only...), Scotch (single malt only..) art, cooking! (constantly), bridge, choir, travel, reading, (always had 5 books on the go), writing, conversation and frankly whatever else came along, she was game. A music lover, she was a lifelong member of the Vancouver Symphony, she was at the Orpheum every Saturday in her reserved seat. A nurse by profession, an athlete, an animal lover and a fine pianist. Nana treasured her family and friends. She loved life.
Her death will leave a huge hole in the lives of all who knew her, especially her family. But we are comforted by the fact that she was active, independent and able to her last day. She spent her final years in her own home and slept in her own bed, which is what we all hope for. Her last day was a happy fun day golfing and I was with her when she left us, for which I am grateful.
So please all, raise a glass and toast a life well lived, Elizabeth (Betty) L Bishop 1933-2021
