It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Erik Anders Hoy on February 11, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Erik was born in March 1964 in North Vancouver to his Norwegian parents, Conny and Erling. The youngest of five, he grew up with his four older sisters, Judy, Karin, Trish, and Dorothy. A natural athlete, he spent his childhood skiing, biking, skating, and hiking around the North Shore mountains and trails. He was also passionate about mechanics and enjoyed working on his cars, mountain bikes, and his motorcycle.
Erik loved being on and near the water. He worked in the marine industry for most of his career, starting as a tugboat deckhand and eventually moving on to the Seaspan office as Manager of Dispatch. During this time, he had a two-year break from the marine world and worked at the Vancouver Stock Exchange as a floor trader for Odlum Brown. There, he met his future wife, Brenda. They married in 1993 and shortly after were blessed with two sons, Michael and Ryan.
Erik inspired Michael and Ryan with his active lifestyle, teaching them to ride a bike, ski, ice skate, and sail as soon as they could fit into the gear. He loved to be a part of their teams and to watch them play. Many years were spent at the rinks, the fields, and the ski hills. Later, he loved to help the boys work on and fix their cars and taught them basic home maintenance and repairs.
Erik loved to explore new places with Brenda and the boys such as road trips down the Pacific Coast, sailing the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound, and travelling the world in search of street tacos, the best spaghetti carbonara, and a good bottle of red wine. He treasured the ski trips, racing in the Peak to Valley sixteen times, going on long bike rides, playing hockey, and tennis with his friends.
Erik was immensely proud of the home he designed and built in 2010, welcoming family and friends to enjoy a meal and glass of wine. He was a wonderfully kind, gentle, caring son, husband, father, brother, and friend, who was always there to lend a helping hand, go for a ride, or play a game. He was an exceptional person and will be forever missed.
