With much sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Erica Matheson. Erica was dearly loved by her family and friends, leaving wonderful memories for her daughter Louise (Ian), son Don (Sue), grandchildren Brandon, Stacey, Sean and Josh, nieces and nephews and many friends in Canada and Scotland.
Erica was born in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. She married Murdoch in 1960 and a few years later they made the courageous decision to immigrate to Canada – first to Montreal and then on to North Vancouver. While Erica lived in Canada since 1963, there was no mistaking her Scottish roots. Her accent never faded and charmed everyone who met her.
Erica was a wonderful homemaker and worked tirelessly for her family. Being a warm, generous person and with a great sense of humour, Erica made and retained friendships that lasted a lifetime. She spent most of her working career at The Bay Vancouver store, retiring in 2000. She looked forward to her monthly luncheons with fellow Bay retirees until 2020 when Covid restrictions were enforced.
While in North Vancouver, Erica dedicated much of her time and energy to her grandchildren. She attended every school concert, watched them grow and was so proud of their accomplishments and graduations.
Erica was a gifted knitter and created the most intricate sweaters, baby clothes and blankets, all completed while watching her favourite British television shows. All of Erica’s knitting was given as gifts or donated to worthy causes.
Erica was an incredibly strong woman, living her life independently and never wanting to burden anyone. Dearly loved by all her family and friends, gatherings will never be the same without her laughter. She will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver at 11:00 am on Friday, August 6, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Gate Foundation or to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
