Eunice Margaret Pistawka was born in Red Deer, Alberta on December 18, 1931 to Reginald & Margaret Abbott. She joined two brothers in the Abbott family and three sisters would soon follow. As the oldest daughter, mom enjoyed looking out for her siblings even after everyone grew up. She is survived by her sister Gail(Vern) Machan and brother-in-law Doug Montgomery and sister-in-law Penny Abbott and sister-in-law Carol Ross.
Eunice met the love of her life, Johnny(d 2021) at Red Deer Composite High School but it would take a few years before they made it official and they became a couple. Mom loved her bookkeeping job at the Municipal Office in Red Deer but she loved dad more and when he was transferred to Cranbrook, she followed, right after they married in 1956. This was the first of many moves and many houses across Western Canada. All three of her kids Tami(Andy), Kevin(Anne) and Jason(Liz) were born in different provinces.
Mom was an equal partner with dad and supported the moves as his career advanced, sometimes staying behind while houses were sold, helping to pack up. Joining the local United Churches, Newcomers & Kiwanis helped them assimilate to new towns and build their community of friends.
Family was very important to Mom and she was lucky enough to have 9 grand children and 2 great granddaughters. Family dinners, gatherings or phone calls were the times she enjoyed most. She kept in contact with many nieces and nephews and loved to hear about their lives thru her siblings or annual Christmas letters. Reunions were a time she cherished and she missed being in Alberta.
Travel was always part of their lives and in later years they enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii and Southern US, among other places, often meeting up or travelling with friends and family.
Mom enjoyed reading, painting, crocheting, curling, entertaining, baking, and sports. Mom & Dad held tickets to every CFL team in the cities they lived in but her latest passion was for the Vancouver Canucks.
Mom and Dad were part of the founding members (aka OG's) at Amica Edgemont. She formed valuable relationships with other residents & the Amica Team who went above and beyond to make it her home of 9 years. Each of you were special to her.
Mom will be forever loved and missed by many ...
