Deep condolences to the family of Evelyn.  I reconnected with Evelyn at a teacher's retirement in June 2014.  She was so pleased to be there.  She told me the number of years since being in the classroom and couldn't quite believe it. Always a smile on her face, and that's how I remember her the first year we worked on staff together at Sir William MacDonald Elementary School in 1970-71. She had an enduring interest in her children and how they learned.  Our school was a "Pilot" school meant to model the British Infant System; Initial Teaching Alphabet and Stations. She embraced different teaching styles and was good at it.  Evelyn was a kind soul with a tender heart for her children. Do I remember this right: I recall her sharing the early days of one room school house, salary could be paid in sacks of potatoes and such...) I wonder if by her vast experience over many teaching years, Evelyn was simply a natural born teacher at heart with compassion at the core. A lovely person and am grateful for having known her.
