February 14, 1937 - March 18, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Evelyn Kin Chuen Wai (née Hui) on March 18, 2026. Dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be lovingly remembered by her husband (Tsang Wing), children Clara (Frank), Robert (Kerry), Elaine (Thor), and David (Linda), her grandchildren Alex, Brian, Sienna, Colin, Emma, Soren, Kiera, and Trevor, sisters in law Shirley, Rosie (Gordon), Minnie (Jacland), and nieces and nephews, Ingrid (Laurence), Christopher (Melissa), Norman, Robin, Michelle (Matt), Vera (Kenny), Victor (Vivian), Miriam, Vera, and Sandra (Wojtek). She is predeceased by her parents, Hui Kung Ngok and Kwong Ngan Ping, and brothers, Yin Cheung (Anita), Yin Chiu (Monika), Yin Ming, and Yin Fong (Stella Pui Hang).
Born in Shanghai, Evelyn grew up in Hong Kong, doted on by her three older brothers. After coming to Canada to study at UBC, where she graduated with three degrees including a Master’s degree in Zoology, she and Wing worked closely as a team, bringing up four children, while managing the household, his legal practice and their property investments.
Evelyn supported so many around her in so many ways. She was a humble but incredibly strong and intelligent woman, with an understated, wry sense of humour. She was so genuine and kind.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 am March 30, 2026 at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver, preceded by visitation from 10 am. The burial will be at 1 pm at Capilano View Cemetery, followed by a reception at Capilano Golf and Country Club, 420 Southborough Drive, West Vancouver, BC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
