Vince, Gertrude (Trudy) Elizabeth
Trudy passed away on August 3, 2016 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon and her son, Don. She will be dearly missed by daughter-in-law, Susan; grandson, Andrew; granddaughter Liz and her husband Ray; great-grandsons, Aiden, Jack and James; and many friends and acquaintances.
Trudy was born in Moose Jaw on April 14, 1922, the only child of Joseph and Gertrude Brattan. In his efforts to provide for his family, Joseph had many jobs and their variety exposed Trudy to many life experiences that helped shape her personality. During the war, she worked at the shipyards where she met Gordon. They married and lived in the lower mainland until the late 1970's when they moved first to Balfour, then Denman Island and then to Fanny Bay on Vancouver Island. Trudy moved back to North Vancouver when Gordon passed away in 2001.
Trudy had a variety of jobs throughout her life-teaching kids to swim; delivery driver for a drugstore; selling home insurance, and working for the local municipal hall-to name a few. But her favourite job had to be working for a Vancouver Island newspaper-taking pictures and reporting. She was passionate about photography. She taught herself how to develop the pictures in the trailer on their property which later became her darkroom.
Trudy loved to garden. Her tomatoes were the best around, even when her "garden" was the deck of her apartment in North Van.
Trudy loved to read and she encouraged others to read. She particularly loved history and all things related to the ocean. She loved Haida Gwaii and she and Gordon vacationed there often. She kept up on current events-reading her daily paper from cover to cover.
Trudy was proficient in many crafts-needlepoint, crochet, knitting, and wood-carving. We all benefited from her skill and were very proud to have what she shared with us.
Trudy was a private, patient, smart, classy, open-minded woman and we are all going to miss her terribly.
