December 13, 1962 – February 8, 2026
Born and raised in North Vancouver, Gina proudly called it home for her entire life. It is with deep sadness and immense love that we announce her passing on February 8, 2026, at the age of 63.
Gina was the beloved wife and best friend of Bill Nimik. Together, they shared more than 33 years of love, loyalty, and partnership, building a life in North Vancouver.
She was the devoted daughter of her late parents, Tony and Jessie Speranza, who predeceased her. Gina is lovingly survived by her older brother Doug (Kim), her younger brother Garry (Dianne), and her treasured nieces and nephews: Anthony, Landen, Tessa, Matteo, Mercedes. She also leaves behind her dear Auntie Barb and the Watt family, Auntie Carol, Auntie Tina, and her uncle Edgar, along with countless cousins and other extended family members.
She was close with friends throughout North Vancouver whose lives were brightened by her vibrant spirit. Gina shared a special bond with many close friends, including her longtime friend Sian and her dear friend Sheri. Gina’s family would like to thank them for spending many hours talking, laughing, and for always being there for her. Her friendships were meaningful and lasting, and her circle was wide.
Gina knew everyone, and everyone knew Gina! A proud and familiar presence — especially around Lower Lonsdale — she never passed someone without saying hello and striking up a conversation. She had a remarkable gift for connection and a genuine love for people. She attended church at the Salvation Army making friends and spending time volunteering for events. Her and Bill enjoyed their time at the North Vancouver Legion and playing shuffleboard at the Army and Navy. She could often be found sipping her favourite latte at 7-Eleven or spending time at the library. Gina loved her little games — Tetris, crosswords, and Wordle — and always kept herself busy. She never wanted to be bored. She would go out on her scooter rain or shine. Her and Bill shared an apartment with panoramic views of the north shore and Vancouver, She loved watching the fireworks in the summer and from her patio. She adored animals. Her parents bought her a horse as a child, and she adored her childhood dog Scampi her cat Kiki.
Life was not always easy for Gina. After her accident as a teenager, she faced many challenges, but she met them with strength and determination. She was a true survivor and a fighter who endured hardships with resilience and without complaint. Gina was full of personality — feisty, outspoken, fun-loving, outgoing, and vivacious. She had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humour. She loved to laugh and made others laugh easily. She often repeated her late father Tony’s classic dad jokes and lived by his advice to “take one day at a time as tomorrow may not be yours”. One of her own favourite sayings was simply, “settle.”
Gina will be remembered for her big heart, bold spirit, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her presence on Lower Lonsdale will be deeply missed, but her laughter, her sayings, and her stories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who was part of Gina’s life and helped make it full of friendship, connection, and love.
A celebration of Gina’s life will be announced at a later date.
