Rogers, Gordon William – It is with deep sadness that Gordon passed away suddenly on March 8, 2016. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara Doreen Rogers in 2009 and will be greatly missed by his five children Bill (Diane), Aileen (Tony), Linda (Michael), John (Irene) and Jim, his grandchildren David (Jen) Jennifer, Dianna, Steve (Nicole), Nicholas, Katrina, Adam, Ashley, Aaron, John (Delaney) Megan, Amanda and great grandchildren Jade, Lucas, Keegan, Caleb, Ryder, Stella and Tristan. Gordon - born in Vegreville, Alberta, was the son of English immigrants who settled in Bentley Alberta in the 1920’s. Gordon’s fondest memories are living on a dairy farm in Alberta where he had a special love for horses. From an early age, Gordon found a passion for mechanics and had a lifelong career as a diesel mechanic and welder. His work took him to many locations in Alberta and finally to North Vancouver, BC in 1969 where he resided until his passing. He loved to tinker with anything mechanical. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix and he was obsessed with converting the engines of all his vehicles, to diesel engines. One of Gordon’s pastimes was restoring his 1928 Model A, a replica of his first car. Once retired, his favorite thing to do was to hit the road in his RV with his wife and occasionally with family and friends. They travelled extensively throughout North America. Gordon especially enjoyed the outdoors, mostly hiking and cycling and went on several long distance cycling adventures across BC and Alberta. He was proud of his five children and strove to instill his hard work ethic upon them. Gordon loved story telling and will be remembered for his many elaborate, lengthy and detailed stories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Rescue Society at 147 E 14 St, North Vancouver, BC V7L 2N4. A service will be held at First Memorial Boal Chapel 1505 Lillooet Road North Vancouver on Friday March 18th at 2pm.
