Helen was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan Dec. 25, 1932 and moved to Vancouver with her mother and 4 brothers after her father’s sudden death (1940). She was widowed twice (Fred Bone d.1959 & Glyn FitzGerald d. 1965) both from tragic air accidents. Thereafter, she had two brief marriages to Morgan Earl (1967) and James Ott (1978). We are most proud of our mom as she provided a secure and loving home for us 4 kids on her own in North Vancouver where started a successful career as realtor with Harold Waddell & Associates and Royal LePage. Later, Helen ventured into business as deli/café proprietor allowing her an avenue to explore her many culinary talents. Her talent for dressmaking led Helen to establish ‘Helen’s Creations’, designing bridal gowns and business wear. The creative arts were a passion for Helen throughout her life. She excelled in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media art and actively participated in North Shore Artists’ Guild. Her interests also extended to membership in West Van Lawn Bowling Club and United Church where she developed many treasured friendships. Helen was a true survivor demonstrating remarkable resilience and zest for life despite tremendous life challenges. We will remember Helen’s enduring strength, grace, creativity and positive outlook that will remain an inspiration to all she knew and loved.
Our family is most appreciative of the exceptional loving care Helen received by all of the staff at the West Vancouver Care Centre . She will rest in peace in the North Vancouver Cemetery with her mother and brother Jack. We will celebrate her life at later date in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please give to your charity of choice.
