I had the honour of witnessing Dr. Viljoen’s brilliance under his supervision as a young practicum student. I am now a Licensed Psychologist. His memory inspired me throughout my doctoral studies. I hope to continue his legacy by providing the high quality of care to my patients, and the best of myself to family and friends.

Now here I am, almost a year later, back on the obituary site, knowing that I still had this on my mind and chest, and I didn't get to truly express how I felt during the memorial service. 

I miss you so much my dearest friend!!! <3 You will be missed by me everyday heavily!!! by me and everyone. 
I know you are watching me type this from above and I Miss you lots/.  and nothing will ever fill that empty space in my life again. I will see you again someday. 

I had to get this off my chest cause I am still crying about it everyday and everynight, and the amount of pain that this has left me is significant because you were like my one only mentor I had, and life without for me will never be the same,. The long talks we had about technology, the canoe trips we had, family visits, birthdays we celebrated, Christmas get-togethers, big celebrations, every birthday you guys called me on, all of the birthday parties we had. Adventures through the forest, and the list goes on, forever. You taught me how to be a man of wisdom/intellegance and truly, made  my world a far better place. 
Thank you forever and we will talk again

As much as I remember how brilliant Hendre was, always knowing something about everything, I’ll remember more the warmth in his eyes and voice, and laugh, and his delight in discovering or trying something new. He was always busy with life. He’d be dictating a report at one moment, then speaking to family in Afrikaans the next, rushing from appointment to meetings, but always so present wherever he was. 

What a tragic loss of a brilliant clinician with a big heart and vigorous chuckle.

Hendre was a valued colleague and an integral part of our local neuropsychology community. Always kind, intelligent, and thoughtful. My heartfelt condolences to his family in their loss at this difficult time.

Deeply saddened by the news of Hendre's sudden passing. Words do fail... but I'll remember him from our time that he and Kim opened their home after our move to Vancouver and our dinners and conversations about the cabin Bill and I shared with him and Kim. Our ski trips together and the conversations in the hot tub...

I had the privilege of meeting and working with Hendre in the 1990s for 4 years in Johannesburg, South Africa with a team of other clinical psychologists. What an incredible human being he was, his strength shone through even then when we were all so young. He had the strongest shoulders, deepest compassion, unlimited time for others, quiet patience, warm smile and what a brilliant mind. I had sadly lost touch over years, but how happy it makes me to see that warm smile in so many pictures and to know that he was happy and I continue to be in awe of him now as I was then. I was fortunate to work alongside Hendre for many years as well as enjoy a number of social get-togethers with him. in terms of working together I worked with individuals with disabilities and was always pleased when I saw that it would be Hendre who would meet with us to go over the neuropsychological assessment done by him or he and his team. His ability to translate difficult information into easily understood and even encouraging and helpful facts was astonishing and beyond compare. He was an extraordinary listener, the way he would lean into conversations tilting his head slightly conveying his open ear and heart. Everyone felt comfortable in his presence and you always felt heard. The world lost a stellar human being.  I feel lucky to have known him and incredibly sad to be writing this note. My heartfelt condolences to you Kim, Hendre’s children and family. 

We are deeply saddened by Hendre’s passing, Kim, and so sorry for your loss.
We will always be grateful for the kindness extended to us by you and Hendre during the passing of Catherine’s son in 2013.  Your generosity in providing your home and car to people, known to you only as friends of Bill, helped us immeasurably through a very difficult time.  It seems you are both known for helping others when it matters most.
We wish you a peaceful path through this time of grief, Kim, and hope you will take the best of care of yourself.
